From Positano to Capri: Private Boat, Hidden Coves & Island Wandering

Cruise from Positano towards Capri, watching the coastline shrink as the island’s cliffs and Faraglioni come into focus. You circle Capri by boat, slipping into tiny bays and grottoes and diving into sheltered coves where the water is impossibly clear. Then you step ashore for a few unhurried hours to explore: ride the funicular to the Piazzetta, wander whitewashed lanes, or visit the Gardens of Augustus for picture-perfect views. A final swim stop on the way home leaves you salty-haired and sun-warmed, with Capri still on the horizon.

You start the day down on Spiaggia Grande in Positano, stepping aboard your private boat as Capri shimmers across the water. As you leave Positano’s pastel houses behind, the captain turns the bow towards the island and you cruise across the Tyrrhenian Sea with the breeze on your face and the coastline slowly dropping away behind you.

You get to know Capri first from the water. You circle the island by boat, slipping past sheer cliffs, hidden inlets and the iconic Faraglioni rock formations rising straight out of the sea. There’s time to stop for swims in clear, sheltered coves – diving straight off the boat and floating on your back beneath Capri’s towering cliffs. Your captain noses into grottos and tiny bays, revealing the island’s wild, rugged side that most visitors never see.

Then it’s time to step ashore. You dock at Capri and have 2–3 hours of free time to explore at your own pace. You might take the funicular up to the Piazzetta, wander through whitewashed lanes lined with boutiques and cafés, visit the Gardens of Augustus for spectacular views, or simply sit with a coffee and watch island life unfold around you.

In the afternoon, you return to the boat and begin the easy cruise back towards Positano. There’s usually time for one last swim stop along the way – a final chance to slide into the sea – before you head into Positano’s bay. You step back onto shore with salt in your hair, Capri still in view, and the golden, unhurried feeling of a day spent entirely on the water.
