After time to wander Sorrento’s historic centre – all cobbles, limoncello shops and sweeping bay views – you retreat to a hidden villa garden. There, under old trees and overgrown pergolas, you linger over a picnic of organic, home-grown dishes in one of the town’s oldest private green spaces.

You start the day with your private driver collecting you from your accommodation and taking you across to the other side of the Sorrentine Peninsula, where the road opens to wide, glittering views over the Gulf of Naples. Soon, you arrive in Sorrento – a sun-kissed town of lemon groves, artisan workshops, and easy old-world elegance.

Your first stop is a true hidden gem: a small, family-run intarsio (inlaid wood) studio, where a father and his two sons keep alive a centuries-old Sorrentine craft. After watching their artistry up close – tiny pieces of walnut, olive, and other local woods cut and fitted into intricate mosaics – you’re invited to sit at the workbench yourself. With their guidance, you create your own small inlaid-wood piece to take home, a hands-on memory of Sorrento’s artistic heritage.

After the studio visit, your guide will show you around Sorrento’s lively centro storico Cobbled, pedestrian-friendly streets twist between historic palazzi, tiny churches, and shopfronts filled with limoncello, leather sandals, ceramics, and handmade goods. Sunlit squares open suddenly to sweeping sea views, with Vesuvius rising in the distance across the bay.

The highlight of the day awaits just beyond the town centre: a private picnic set within one of Sorrento’s oldest gardens, on the grounds of an elegant, Tuscan-inspired villa. Hidden behind old walls and shaded by ancient trees, this is a pocket of deep calm. You kick off your shoes, sink into the grass or relax under the pergola, and enjoy a farm-to-table spread prepared with organic ingredients from the villa’s own gardens – seasonal vegetables, simple local dishes, fresh bread, olive oil, and chilled wine.

As the afternoon draws to a close, your private driver meets you at the villa and returns you to your accommodation. You arrive back carrying your own handmade inlaid-wood souvenir and the lingering feeling of a day that blended craft, sea views, and slow time in a secret garden.
