You start the day down on Spiaggia Grande in Positano, stepping aboard your private boat as Capri shimmers in the distance across the water. As you leave Positano’s pastel houses behind, the captain points the bow towards the island, and you cruise across the Tyrrhenian Sea with the sea breeze on your face and the coastline slowly falling away.
You get to know Capri entirely from the water. You circle the island by boat, slipping past dramatic cliffs, the iconic Faraglioni rock formations, and hidden coves carved into the rock. There’s time to stop for swims in translucent bays, dive straight off the boat, and float on your back looking up at Capri’s towering cliffs above you. Your captain can nose into tiny inlets and grottoes, giving you a front-row view of the island’s wild, rugged side that most visitors never see.
After a morning on the water, you head towards the tiny fishing village of Nerano for lunch at Lo Scoglio – a legendary seaside restaurant set right on the water. Here, you sit down to a long, lazy lunch of incredibly fresh seafood, vegetables from the family’s own gardens, and their famous spaghetti with zucchini, a simple local dish that has become iconic on this stretch of coast. Plates arrive one after another, the wine is crisp and cold, and the feeling is wonderfully unhurried.
When lunch finally winds down, you climb back on board for the cruise home to Positano. There’s time for one more swim stop along the way – a last chance to slide into the sea and rinse off the salt and sun – before you return to the bay. You step back onto shore with salt in your hair, Capri still in view, and the easy, golden feeling of a day spent entirely on the water.
