You begin the day on Spiaggia Grande in Positano, where you meet your private boat captain and step aboard your Amalfi Coast charter. As you glide away from the shore, Positano’s pastel houses fade into the distance and the coastline opens up in front of you – sheer cliffs, hidden inlets, and colourful villages clinging to the rocks.
From the water, you see the Amalfi Coast from an entirely new angle. You cruise past the dramatic Furore Fjord, pause in sheltered coves for swims in clear turquoise water, and stretch out on deck to soak up the Mediterranean sun while the boat skims across the Tyrrhenian Sea.
One of the morning’s highlights is the Emerald Grotto, a sea cave discovered in the 1930s. Here, you transfer into small boats to enter the cavern, where the water shimmers an intense green, lit from below by sunlight filtering through underwater openings – an ethereal, almost surreal sight.
Back on board, you continue along the coast to a secluded restaurant that can only be reached by sea. You step ashore to a relaxed, toes-almost-in-the-water lunch, savouring just-caught seafood, simple local dishes, and crisp Campanian wines with the sound of the waves as your soundtrack.
After lunch, your captain takes you on to Amalfi, where you have free time to wander at your own pace. You might visit the striking Duomo of St Andrew, linger on the piazza with a gelato or espresso, or explore the narrow backstreets lined with artisan shops.
Later in the afternoon, you rejoin your boat for the return journey to Positano. There’s time for one last swim stop, and as the light softens your captain pops a bottle of prosecco for aperitivo at sea. Glass in hand, you watch the coastline glow in the late-afternoon sun before cruising back into Positano’s bay – the perfect end to a day that feels like pure Amalfi Coast magic.
